About

Most everything that would go on a standard “About” page is probably covered in my first Marvel Time Warp post, “A Golden Age.” The tl;dr version: I started reading comic books in 1978. A couple of years ago, I realized I could probably find all of the books that Marvel published in 1978 online (thanks to official services like Marvel Unlimited and unofficial fan-made scans), and and it might be fun to read all of those books and write a little about them. After a couple of years of reading those old comics, I can confirm that, yes, it is fun.

Marvel Time Warp began as a Substack newsletter, but at the beginning of 2025 I decided to leave Substack and post new Marvel Time Warp stuff on a self-hosted blog. Well, not literally self-hosted — I pay a web-hosting company for server space and bandwidth. But most corporate-owned blogging and social media platforms are problematic these days for a myriad of reasons, so I’m embracing a more indie approach to the web wherever I can.

I built this iteration of Marvel Time Warp using Grav, a content management system (CMS) that appeals to me because it is (1) open-source and (2) uses simple text files instead of a database. I should be able to easily archive the website at any time, and all anyone would need to read all the posts would be an app capable of handling plain text (like TextEdit or Notepad).

I’m going to migrate several Marvel Time Warp posts here before I launch this version of the site. But if you’re looking for older posts, they’ll be available at marveltimewarp.substack.com.

Oh, also I’m using Sender to create a mailing list for people who want to be informed about new Marvel Time Warp posts. You can sign up for that using the “Subscribe” link at the top of each page. And there’s an RSS feed, too!
